Sports have been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. I've played every sport for various lengths of time. It started with recreational soccer and CYO basketball and finished with college football, although I'd use the phrase 'played' very loosely when describing my college career. My love for sports grew into an appreciation for the players we watch, especially the art of analyzing the sequence of events during any particular game and the statistical milestones the great ones are able to achieve. My love for statistics is how I gravitated toward fantasy sports, my love for writing is how I gravitated toward creating this website.
I've played organized soccer, tennis, baseball, basketball and football, and I ran track. The only sport I never really got into (other than hockey and lacrosse, which were sports I never really played because of a lack of exposure) was golf. I've always said I love sports in which I'm active and running around so golf just isn't for me. My main sport was always football. I won a prep school Super Bowl my senior year of high school at Suffield Academy and went on to play three years at Trinity College. I sat out my senior year due to a knee injury I suffered during an annual Thanksgiving day football game played in my hometown. I fractured my right kneecap, but I guess that's what I get for laying out the biggest kid on the field. We play touch now. Looking back, that injury was a blessing in disguise because it allowed me to get involved with the sports administration department at Trinity and develop my writing skills.
I can't even remember when I started playing fantasy football, but my love for it really took off when I became the commissioner of "The League" in 2005. For those of you wondering about the origion of our league's name, league member Alex Mason came up with it as we were entering our fifth season. Shortly thereafter, FX came out with the popular TV show "The League," which coincidentally enough began with the fifth season of their league's existence as well. My love for fantasy sports grew even more (if that was even possible) when I began playing fantasy basketball (2009) and fantasy baseball (2010). It's important to point out that I'm not a fair-weather fantasy player. I love the game when I'm dominating, which is most of the time, and when I'm losing. Losing just makes me try harder. Nowadays it's hard to have a conversation with me without sports or the fantasy game coming up as a topic.
I began writing weekly features for my football league in 2009. What started as weekly power rankings has developed into weekly matchup breakdowns and spotlight articles with a focus on an individual team. This website has long been an idea I had hoped to see come to fruition and it finally has. A goal of mine has been to see my fantasy leagues continue until the day I die and this is just a way to make that experience more enjoyable for every member of my leagues. And hey, you never know who might see this (I'm talking to you Matthew Berry).
Special shout out to Luke Gorz for helping build "The Fantasy Hut." Without him, all of this wouldn't have been possible. If anyone ever needs someone to help them build a website, Luke is your man.
